Gemstone Factoids: Obsidian
21 07 2008
Obsidian is a naturally occurring glass. It is produced when felsic lava extruded from a volcano cools without crystal growth. Pure obsidian is usually dark in appearance, though the color varies depending on the presence of impurities. Iron and magnesium typically give the obsidian a dark green to brown to black color. Obsidian was valued in Stone Age cultures because, like flint, it could be fractured to produce sharp blades or arrowheads. It was also polished to create early mirrors.
Suspended from a delicate silver chain, this beautiful Sterling Silver Golden Shine Obsidian Pendant has a dark and enchanting obsidian stone. Obsidian is considered a protective gemstone that removes negative energy and heals illness. It’s at a great price right now for just $55!
