To most women, a diamond ring is one of their most prized possessions. As such, you want it to keep on shining forever. However, everyday wear can take its toll. Hand lotion, food residue from cooking, household chemicals, styling products and everyday grime can cause a layer of film which diminishes the ability for light to shine through the diamond, causing it to lose their sparkle.
If you are noticing your diamonds don’t shine like they used to, try these easy steps
1. Soak the diamond in warm solution of mild liquid detergent and water
2. Use a soft toothbrush brush to remove dirt.
3. Swish the ring around in the solution, then rinse it thoroughly in warm water.
If doing this in a sink, be sure to stop the drain or put something in it to make sure you don’t lose the ring!

A wonderful article recently appeared in the New York Times, about the changing view of rings and gems for second time brides.
Women who once rigorously avoided a fancy engagement ring are revising their notions about this classic symbol of commitment and love. The older bride wants a ring that proclaims: I’m getting married, I’m proud of it, and I want a way to show it…Even if a bride’s second wedding ceremony is not as elaborate as her first, without the big, white dress and the train of bridesmaids, the ring may grow in significance.
The article goes on to speak of bigger diamonds;
“The second marriage always means higher-priced diamonds,” said Elizabeth Chatelain, president of the marketing company Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council. “Women are more comfortable with diamonds these days. Women are even buying diamonds for themselves.”
A trend I fully agree with. Who says you can’t show love to yourself with a diamond as well? Nonetheless, nothing beats the timeless expression of romantic love like a Diamond from your spouse.
It also speaks of married couples upgrading rings once they have the means, and how more couples are going with colorful gemstones the second time around or to symbolize something about the relationship. Read the article here for some insight into current trends.
Whether you are getting married again, renewing your vows or reiterating your existing love, a diamond or gemstone can say a thousand words.
I’ve included here two eye catching ring options, but also check out this sleek ruby ring for another great gemstone choice and the timeless beauty of a high quality diamond engagement ring.

Capricorn, the tenth Sign of the Zodiac, is all about hard work. Those born under this Sign are more than happy to put in a full day at the office, realizing that it will likely take a lot of those days to get to the top. That’s no problem, since Capricorns are both ambitious and determined: they will get there. Life is one big project for these folks, and they adapt to this by adopting a businesslike approach to most everything they do. Capricorns are practical as well, taking things one step at a time and being as realistic and pragmatic as possible. The Capricorn-born are extremely dedicated to their goals, almost to the point of stubbornness.
The Goat symbolizes Capricorns, and an apt mascot it is. Goats love to climb to the top of the mountain, where the air is clear and fresh. In much the same way, Capricorns want to get to the top of their chosen field so that they can reap the benefits of success.
You can help the Capricorn in your life dress for success with one of these zodiac neckalces.

Dear Leslie,
I’m looking for a gift for my girlfriend, her style is very feminine and cute. I want to get something nice, but under say, $200, can you help?
Will in West Orange, NJ
No problem Will. I’m thinking you may want to go with this 1 Carat Pink Tourmaline and Diamond Necklace. It’s a stunning and versatile piece that will perfectly enhance her neckline. At only $150 it’s also a fabulous deal.
Another option is this lovely 5/8 Carat Pink Tourmaline and Diamond 14K White Gold Pendant. If it is the right time in your relationship, a gift of a heart necklace can be just the right way to say I love you.

Dear Leslie,
I want to get my wife or 25 years something absolutely spectacular for Christmas this year. Something that will take her breath away. Price is (almost) no object. Can you help steer me in the right direction?
Ronald in Manhattan
For something truly spectacular, I suggest you take a look at the recently compiled Vault Collection from ice.com.
Among the items therein, I am particularly enamored of the 4 Carat Diamond 18K White Gold Necklace shown above to the right. A glorious look for festive occasions, this radiant necklace is a piece that will easily become a family heirloom. It sells for $4,995.
Given the many years you have been together, you might also consider this 2 Carat 3-Stone Diamond 14K Gold Ring. The three stones beautifully symbolizing your past, present and future together. The version seen here goes for $4,995 although it also comes in other stone options, see the link for more details.
Also stunning is this exquisite Graduated 8-11mm Tahitian Cultured Pearl Strand. Black Tahitian pearls are the most valuable and most sought after of all pearls, and I have never seen them displayed with more beauty and elegance than on this necklace. Click on the link for a better view. It goes for $2,795.

Dear Leslie, I’m headed to a few Christmas parties this season, and certainly want to be fashionable. I’m willing to spend more if its something I really love, but if it’s just for one season, I’d prefer to stay on budget.
Any suggestions?
Amy in Birmingham
When it comes to Christmas parties, get festive! I’ve found two options for you that just might be perfect, on different ends of the financial spectrum.
The first is this elegant and flirtatious lariat necklace. In White gold with yellow gold beads it’s sure to dazzle. It goes for $495.
The other option is this Multipearl Tassle Necklace. The leather strap it hangs from gives it a distinctive feel and the tassle of shimmering multi-color pearls and sterling silver are perfect for the season. It’s a steal for only $65.

The birthstone for December is the enchanting Blue Topaz
The lore, magic and romance of topaz goes back many thousands of years. It holds the distinction of being the gemstone with the widest range of curative powers. It also happens to be a hard gemstone, making it fine to wear everyday.
Topaz is one of the most versatile of gemstones, coming in a plethora of colors. Blue Topaz stuns with its vivid intensity like a Caribbean ocean. The color will certainly enhance the features of a blue eyed girl, and constant beautifully with the auburn locks of red heads. It also goes particularly well with wardrobes featuring pastel colors.
The one carat blue topaz and diamond pendant above to the right is a fantastic way to show off this beautiful gemstone. At only $85 it’s a deal not to be missed.
The blue topaz and diamond earrings to the left are delicate, chic and a perfect evening look when you want to look glamorous.
Also, don’t miss this eye catching London blue topaz and diamond ring. Sky blue topaz, Swiss blue topaz, London blue topaz are names used in the gem trades to refer to the depth of color. Sky blue is the lightest while London blue is the darkest blue.
